Professional Counseling for Individuals, Couples, Children & Adolescents
GENERAL APPROACH
| I work from an empowerment model. My goal is to teach clients new ways of perceiving their problem, healthy coping behaviors for responding to their problem, and healthy attitudes & communication skills for working with their families, partners, or work environment so they can make changes in their own life. I am an oppression-sensitive therapist. I take into account my client's strengths, work from a mutual respect model, and recognize that a person's gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, race, religion, and health, all impact how he or she perceives and experiences an issue. |

I consider myself an Eclectic Therapist. Among the many methods and techniques I most commonly use in therapy are the following:

When working with couples and relationship issues, I prefer the "Gottman Method" - a scientifically-based marital therapy that is highly interactive, educational, challenging . . . and couples often discover that counseling can be very reviving! Using a compassionate and direct approach, I help couples recognize their strengths as they learn to repair old hurts, rebuild their friendship, and deepen their connection.
